Fathers Day

Our first Fathers Day was on Sunday. We basically just laid around the house all morning trying to recover from last week. We then went to get Brians fathers day present (an iphone!) and then headed over to Grandpops house for a BBQ.

Rough Times

This has been a hard week for us. On tuesday june 14, my mom (Noah's Grams) passed away. 




Patti A. Hecht, 58, of Toms River, passed on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at University of Pennsylvania, after her courageous and hard fought battle with Ovarian Cancer. Born in Elizabeth, she lived most of her life in Pine Beach, moving to Toms River in 1977. Patti was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was known for her quick wit and laid back attitude, who enjoyed vacationing with friends and family, especially in Key West, where they lived many months of the year. Patti truly touched the lives of everyone that met her and will be missed by all.

She is predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Edvarda Vellucci; and her sister, Elise Capestro. She is survived by her husband, Michael of 33 years; her daughter, Kelli and son-in-law Brian Eberhardt of Bayville; her grandson, Noah Patrick Eberhardt; and her sister, Nelleda Goodwin of Westfield.

Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 17 at the funeral home; arrive 9:30 a.m. Cremation is private. There wont be a day that goes by that we do not miss her, talk to her, or remember her! We will make sure Noah knows everything about his grandmother and how much she loved him! He is the one who is really missing out because she would have been an amazing grandmother for him growing up and it saddens us that he will not get to have her around. But like we have been telling each other, now she can see him anytime she wants :-)

Out and About!

We are trying to make it out of the house at least once a day now! On Sunday we met some of the Boyle family at Ryan's christening after party.

Ryan and Noah are about 3 months a part and i am sure will be spending lots of time together!

Then today it was nice out so we decided to take a walk around Berkeley Island. It was nice to get out and the breeze off the bay was perfect for a sleeping baby! He seemed to enjoy it and so did Mom and Dad!

On Saturday we had our first play date. Our friends Katie and Steve had their son Charlie 8 days before us!  I went to high school and college with steve and brian teaches with katie.  Needless to say it has been really great having close friends go thru this with us!

When we got back home the fussiness level had tripled from his time in the hospital, we realized by friday night that although he was breast feeding he was not getting enough! We called the Dr and were told to give him a bottle of formula that night and he would be looked at the next day at his previously scheduled 48hr appointment.  When we got to the Dr they realized his jaundice had increased and he had lost a significant amount of weight. We were sent to get his jaundice tested. It had doubled from 8 to 16 in a day and a half. They took him off breast feeding completely and onto formula for the next 3 days. Luckily his number went down and the weight went back on, so by his next appt. on tuesday we were good to go!  Unfortunately, 3 days of bottle feeding had spoiled him and he had a hard time getting back to breast feeding.  We decided that we would bottle feed breast milk instead of formula, but that meant i would be pumping every 2-3 hours! So that means if he isnt eating, i was pumping on a constant rotations for days, leaving no time for naps, housework, etc.   BUT something clicked yesterday and (knock on wood) we might be back to breast feeding and not pumping so much!!  I think i am still going to pump a little daily to get a backup supply and incase we feel he isnt getting enough we can give him a bottle so we know how much he is eating. But as of right now i am EXCITED that yesterday he made it thru the day with only a couple bottles!

** updated - we are now officially on formula :-(  it was a hard decision but after talking to his Dr we know its the right one. He just isn't getting enough when he tries to breast feed.  We tried to exclusively pump but that just wasn't working either.  We know he will be happier this way with a full tummy and we will be happier knowing how much he is eating. Plus if i am not pumping round the clock i have more time with him and more time to rest, which in the end will make me a better mommy :-)

Hospital Days

The first couple days are still a blur.  A mix of healing and happiness! We were lucky to have some visitors in the hospital to come see our new little guy!

Modified Birth Story

 Without being too graphic: We got to the hospital at 6am on Tuesday, May 24th. Got hooked up to monitors and IV's and the nurse asked if i could feel the contractions i was already having on my own! (i couldnt).  We got the pitocin started at 7am and the contractions started. Nothing bad at first and i was pretty good up until around 10am where we figured we should ask for the epidural before we regretted waiting to long. That process took about an hour for the Dr to come and for it to be put in, so i am very glad we asked when we did!  So around 11am we are watching the price is right and the epidural is working! The Dr came in and broke my water probably around noon and they said if i feel the need to push or poop to let them know! It was around 1245 when i said "i could probably poop". I don't think they took me seriously because i was just at 5cm not long before hand. After i said it a couple of times the Dr checked me and i was at 10 cm and ready to go!  We were shocked because we were told it wouldn't be until 5pm that i was fully dialated!  So the pushing started at 1pm and he was born at 1:48! They put him on my stomach and then over to get cleaned up! He cried right away and was perfectly healthy. Me on the other hand received 4th degree tears and about an hour and a half of stiching up! (i wont go into the details of that one!)

After i was sewed back together we got to spend some time with him and we even allowed the grandparents to come in and visit before he went to the nursery for his bath and measurements!
